New ‘Safe and Sound’ campaign launches in Galway City Night-Time Economy Pilot

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD has announced the Safe & Sound Campaign in the Night-Time Economy (NTE) pilot towns and cities. The campaign is designed to promote safe and sound behaviour and encourage respect while enjoying a night out within local communities.

It’s a call to action for both visitors and residents to enjoy the night-time economy safely while being considerate of their surroundings.

Minister Martin says; "Safety is a key aspect of the work the pilot areas, but we also want to remind people to have fun and enjoy their nights out. This Safe and Sound campaign encourages individuals to be mindful of each other, and I hope, will create an even more enjoyable and respectful environment for everyone. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Night-Time advisors for their hard work on this campaign."

As part of a collaborative effort, the campaign focuses on awareness, reminding people about the importance of respecting their towns and cities, ensuring that nightlife remains a positive experience for all. Whether heading out for a night of entertainment, dining, or socialising, the campaign's key message is simple: enjoy yourself, but be respectful of others and the areas you visit.

Night-Time Economy Advisor for Galway City, Kate Howard says; "This campaign encourages everyone to enjoy our vibrant night-time economy while being mindful of those around them and the wider community. It aims to set a positive tone for the future of Galway’s Night-Time Economy, combining both enjoyment and responsibility. Let's look after each other and ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night out. If you head out with friends, try to stick together and come home together."

The Safe and Sound campaign will run in the Night-Time Economy pilot locations in Cork City, Galway City, Dublin City, Drogheda Louth, Sligo town, Buncrana Donegal, Longford town, Kilkenny City and Limerick City. It will be promoted through social media, radio advertisements and posters on college campuses and in bars. To further amplify the campaign's impact, resources and promotional materials will be made available to Night-Time Economy stakeholders.
