6.00pm: Gary Kendellen of Galway Atlantaquaria will give a talk on "Native Sharks and Rays in our Coastal Waters – Life and Livelihoods". To celebrate World Oceans Day and its theme of ‘Life and Livelihoods’, Galway Atlantaquaria will share stories of some of the wonderful egg case discoveries that can be made along our coastlines. We can learn a lot about the types of rays and sharks that live in our oceans by recording the egg cases we find along the shore. This data is often lost as not many people record the types of egg cases they find or are unsure how to identify. As these egg cases cannot survive for long on the shore, this data is lost forever. The workshop involves finding egg cases as we do the beach clean and talking about the types of egg cases we discover. The egg cases will be uploaded to record the discovery, so everyone can participate in citizen science and conservation. The goal of the workshop is to encourage more people to walk along the shore and record lost egg cases for the conservation of these beautiful species.
