This year Cruinniú na nÓg are delighted to be able to offer most events in-person and there are lots of opportunities to try something new. Many of the free events incorporate elements of sustainability, recycling, utilizing the natural and built environment, as well as encouraging creative solutions and using your imagination.

Speaking at the launch at Scoil Bhride National School in Shantalla, Cllr. Connolly expressed her delight that Galway City Council and Creative Ireland could invite young people to come together and be creative in their local communities. She said; "Cruinniu na nÓg is free and this allows for greater opportunities to take part, for everyone. I want to encourage everyone to check out what is happening and to join in making Cruinniú na nÓg an even bigger success in 2022. Not forgetting that some children are still staying close to home, the very popular Paintclub will run an online art tutorial themed ‘My Superpower is.....’ that is open to everyone. We realised just how important the arts sector and creative activities were in the last couple of years, so Galway lets embrace our creative potential!"

Following the lovely welcome extended by the students to Mayor Connolly, the children told her about the Cruinniú na nÓg programme they ran in their school with Galway City Libraries and renowned children’s author Patricia Forde. Two other schools: Radharc na Mara, Mervue, and Scoil San Proinsios, Tirellan, also participated in the programme. Be sure to check out ‘The Sea, Oh the Sea’ exhibitions of stories and animations in the libraries across the city on Sat 11th June.

While many of the free events will take place on Saturday 11th of June, the National Day of Creativity, some projects ran over several weeks in a variety of settings, with the results being highlighted on the day itself. As mentioned above, Galway City Libraries ran ‘The Sea, Oh the Sea’ in 3 primary schools, Curo facilitated ‘The Diary of Wonder’ in a primary school and TULCA also collaborated with schools on ‘Myths of the Near Future’ looking at sci-fi filmmakers' treatment of the future and how young people imagine the near future. shOUT!
