Following a hugely popular run last year, Aniar’s Kids Eat Free initiative is back, offering young diners between the ages of seven and fifteen a free 12-course tasting experience at the Michelin-starred restaurant when dining with an adult.

This November, as the west of Ireland moves into the heart of autumn, Jp and his team are once again opening Aniar’s doors to the next generation, inviting young diners to discover wild and foraged Irish produce, the rituals of fine dining, and the unique flavours of the West of Ireland.

Owner and Chef Patron of Aniar, Jp McMahon, says, “We were blown away by the response last year. Watching a young diner try something for the very first time, a piece of seaweed or a cured fish, and watching their eyes light up, is exactly why we do this. November is a wonderful time to introduce children to the food of the west. The harvest is in, the game season has arrived and there’s a real sense of the year turning. Food education doesn’t only happen in a classroom. Sitting down together, sharing a meal and talking about where the ingredients come from is one of the best lessons there is”.

Jp added, “At Aniar we have fostered a culture of inclusivity and curiosity and nothing brings more life into the room than eager and adventurous young diners. We’d love to see families visit and make an occasion of it this November”.

Jp McMahon has long been a champion of food education for young people. He is often found giving talks and doing demos, in schools and at festivals around the country, on the importance of good food habits and why they must begin at a young age. Kids Eat Free brings that same mission to the table at his Michelin-starred restaurant.

Aniar’s tasting menu is rooted in the land and sea of Ireland’s west coast and changes with the seasons. In November, that means the best of the autumn harvest, from seaweed foraged off the Galway coast to wild game. Aniar’s mission is to showcase Irish food through its natural ingredients, making it a truly unique way to taste the west of Ireland. The 12-course Young Diners’ Tasting Menu has been a feature for a number of years at Aniar and is available all year round. From 1st to 30th November, as part of Blas na Samhna, young diners eat for free. Each young diner must be accompanied by one dining adult. Bookings are recommended.

Blas na Samhna is a month-long celebration of Galway’s food and drink culture which takes place during November. Some of the city and county’s best restaurants, hotels, chefs and producers create a series of one-off events inspired by the season. This year, the festival is in collaboration with Gaillimh Ah-Boo!, bringing a distinctly Samhain flavour to the programme. Festival goers can expect atmospheric dining experiences, seasonal feasts and imaginative events that play with the traditions, stories and darker side of this time of year.
