The Late Gerry Mulholland honoured with posthumous music release

The late Gerry Mulholland, a beloved singer-songwriter and humanitarian, is being honoured posthumously with the release of his single, 'Japanese Tokyo Skyline', with all proceeds going to support Galway Simon Community, a local charity dedicated to ending homelessness in the West of Ireland.

Gerry was known not only for his musical talent but also for his profound kindness, and as a man who tirelessly thought of others, dedicating his life to helping those in need. His work in Calcutta, where he established a school for street children, transformed the lives of countless young people by providing them with education, hope, and a brighter future. Gerry’s music and his actions shared a common thread: a deep empathy for the struggles of others and a commitment to creating positive change.

Japanese Tokyo Skyline is a vibrant and heartfelt ode to the beauty of connection and shared humanity. The song, inspired by Gerry’s travels and the iconic Tokyo skyline in the 1990s, reflects the same thoughtfulness and generosity that defined his life.

Aoife Mulholland, Gerry’s niece, performs vocals on this single which was recorded with a huge help from both Carl Hession and Eugene Kileen in honour of Gerry’s lasting legacy of compassion and selflessness.

Aoife says; "Gerry’s passion for helping others was as much a part of him as his music. He believed in the power of community, and he showed it in everything he did—whether it was starting a school in Calcutta or writing songs that touched hearts. Releasing Japanese Tokyo Skyline is our way of continuing his mission to make the world a better place."

"Gerry used to play this song to us when we were children and for some reason ‘Japanese Tokyo Skyline’ left a deep impression on me. Not only for its beautiful melody and lyrics but for the underlying theme, that no matter where we are, we all want the same things: a place to call home, a sense of belonging, and connection."

"Gerry would have been so proud knowing that his legacy lives on and his lifelong dedication to helping others continues, even after his passing. With ‘Japanese Tokyo Skyline,’ we will connect that message to the work of Galway Simon, who work tirelessly to support those without a place to call home.”

Fintan Maher of Galway Simon said; "We are delighted to be beneficiaries of this song in memory of Gerry. Gerry was a grest advocate for those in need and it is wonderful that this tribute to Gerry will support people in the community Gerry called home.”

Proceeds from the single will support Galway Simon Community in their mission to provide housing, emergency support, and advocacy for those affected by homelessness across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
