D.J’s - Love them or hate them these men & women are tasked week in, week out with making the soundtracks to our nights out. But who are these mystical creatures? How do they survive on a diet of taco chips and lager? Why won’t they play Galway Girl for you?

Have they actually ever saved anyone’s life? We decided we wanted to find out and headed out & about in Galway Town to track them down, find out what makes them tick & request Galway Girl so you don’t have to. Every two weeks we’ll bring you an interview with one of these megalomaniacs and in return for caressing their massive ego’s they have promised to provide a playlist or mix for your aural pleasure. Kicking off this week we bring you a true Galway legend. King of the Roisin Dubh, the Silent Disco Sensai, Ladies and Gentlewomen…. I give you Gugai:

How did you get into Djing?

To save a bit of money when I was running live music club nights. I just started DJing myself. Oh, and a bit of HIt The Decks in the Drum in first year.

Tell us about your first gig?

It was at Hit The Decks in the Drum. I played some Beck. That's all I can remember. It was a little while ago....

What is the most memorable gig you've played?

There's something special about a couple of thousand people singing Total Eclipse Of The Heart out on Dominick St.

Have you had any full on disasters?

I have repressed all memories of said disasters, if any.

What is the strangest thing you've seen whilst Djing?

 A couple of thousand people singing Total Eclipse Of The Heart out on Dominick St.

Do women regularly throw themselves at you while gigging?

With no more regularity than usual.

If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be?

Yes

What is you favourite Venue/Festival in Galway to Play?

I have to say I am very fond of the Roisin Dubh.

If you weren't a Dj, what would your career of choice be?

I think I could be a live music promoter if I put my mind to it and really applied myself.
