We don’t know if you’ve heard, but apparently some really smart scientists have done some tests and came to the conclusion that Galway - statistically - has the highest percentage of sound inhabitants in the world.
This comes as absolutely no surprise to us as we are surrounded by some seriously sound faces on the daily. If you’re wondering how you, too, can reach this level of soundness, we’ve pinpointed some of the contributing factors...
Morning Dips at Salthill
An early morning start is made a whole lot easier by taking a quick swim in Galway Bay. Whether you want to dive off Blackrock or wade your way in, the euphoric peace and energising rush you get once you’re fully submerged will make you feel revitalised and ready to take on even the toughest of days.

Daily Dosage of Tunes
Heading along to a trad session in the local boozer or giving a few quid to one of the many talented buskers that line our streets - music pieces our life together from dawn to dusk. No matter where you go throughout the city, you’re more than likely to hear the echoes of a familiar tune, a passer-by humming one of their favourite songs or the faraway melody of a nearby bird. Music connects all of our lives and makes sure the frowns never last too long.
Having the Craic like no man's Business
It’s fair to say that the Irish just love the craic. Whatever life has thrown at us and however hard a day has been, Galway folk know that there’s no better medicine like a bitta craic. Chats in the pub, tea by the fire or getting up to some shenanigans in town, a laugh a day will make sure you’ll be sound as a pound for the foreseeable.
Saying 'Feck It' and Leaving it at that
A well-known aspect of being a sound Galway beure is the ability to let things roll off your back. As a general rule, Galway folk don’t like to linger on the shite side of life, focussing instead on the positives. Saying ‘feck it’ is a simple yet effective way of remaining calm and accepting of whatever life throws at you.
Getting out in the great outdoors
It’s no secret that Galway has got some of the most idyllic, picturesque landscapes in the whole world. A day spent soaking up the views in Connemara should be on everyone’s to-do list. There’s something so peaceful and enchanting about quietly observing nature in all its glory and come wind, rain or shine, the scenes in Galway are always breathtaking.
Pint Sipping While People Watching
Whether it’s Mi Wadi or Guinness, a pint is a pint and they’re always best enjoyed watching the many faces of Galway wander by. Kids laughing, teenagers chatting and people rushing here and there, everyone who passes by has their own story for you to imagine. There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting back and watching every variety of person rush by as you relax in the evening sunshine.
Learning to Dance in the Rain
If you haven’t already heard, it tends to rain quite a bit here in Galway. Regardless of this fact, we always somehow seem to forget our umbrellas! Instead of waiting it out inside, the people of Galway refuse to let a few raindrops hold them hostage. Some of the finest memories are made while dripping wet, squinting through a torrential downpour.
Those scientists (they really do exist), really hit the nail on the head. We’re just seriously sound people with a permanent dose of the sniffles.
