The Hawthorn by Galway Bay has been named Newcomer of the Year 2026 at the prestigious Georgina Campbell Irish Food & Hospitality Awards, marking a major milestone for Galway’s newest hotel just months after opening its doors.
The award was announced at a gala lunch at the InterContinental Dublin Hotel, where leading names from across Ireland’s food, tourism and hospitality industry gathered to celebrate excellence within the sector.
Now in their fourth decade, the Georgina Campbell Irish Food & Hospitality Awards are the longest-running independent hospitality awards of their kind in Ireland. Established by renowned food and hospitality writer Georgina Campbell, the awards are particularly respected within the industry because businesses cannot enter themselves.
Instead, winners are selected following independent, year-round assessments by a team of experts who visit anonymously, make their own bookings and pay their bills as ordinary guests.
Receiving the Newcomer of the Year title represents a significant early achievement for The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, which opened during summer 2026 following an extensive transformation of the landmark property at Renville Point in Oranmore.
In announcing the award, the Georgina Campbell team highlighted the scale of the transformation at Renville Point, noting the use of stone, timber and bog oak to reflect the surrounding landscape and seascape, alongside the sweeping views across Galway Bay and the championship golf course.
The hotel’s food and beverage offering was also recognised, including The Skylark, where an open kitchen and live-fire cooking take centre stage, and The Oystercatcher, which combines views across Galway Bay with creative cocktails and a distinctive food offering.
Henry Beaumont The Hawthorn by Galway Bay said; "To be named Newcomer of the Year by Georgina Campbell is an incredible honour, particularly so soon after opening our doors. The Hawthorn has been a hugely ambitious project, built around our belief that this remarkable location deserves a hospitality experience to match."
"This award belongs to the entire team. From the people who helped bring the vision for The Hawthorn to life to those who welcome and look after our guests every day, there has been an enormous amount of passion, dedication and attention to detail involved."
"We are extremely proud to bring this national recognition back to Galway. This is only the beginning of The Hawthorn’s story, and we look forward to continuing to build a destination that Galway and the West of Ireland can be proud of."
The Georgina Campbell Awards place particular emphasis on genuine hospitality and the personal connection between guests and the people who welcome them. Speaking at this year’s awards, Georgina Campbell highlighted the importance of preserving the human element of Irish hospitality at a time when technology and automation are becoming increasingly prominent across the industry.
For The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, the Newcomer of the Year accolade adds significant national recognition to what has already been a landmark year for the property and represents an important endorsement of its ambition to establish Renville Point as one of Ireland’s leading luxury hospitality destinations.
