The Black Gate will return… but they need your help!

The founders of The Black Gate are excited to announce the revival of this beloved cultural venue in the heart of Galway, and they have announced an Indiegogo campaign so you can get involved and support the re-opening. Find out more here...

First opened in 2017, The Black Gate became a thriving center for music, literature, visual arts, and film. After being forced to close during the Covid-19 pandemic and losing their venue to the sale of the building in 2021, the team behind The Black Gate has now secured a new space on Flood Street, around the corner from Quay Street, and are eager to reopen.

The Black Gate is calling on its community to help complete the transformation of the new venue. Supporters are invited to contribute by purchasing one of the many reward packages available or by sharing the campaign to spread the word. Every contribution, large or small, will help bring The Black Gate back to life as a vibrant cultural hub for Galway.

In return for contributions, The Black Gate team is offering a wide range of rewards, such as Black Gate postcards, custom T-shirts, concert passes, limited-edition artist prints, gift vouchers, and more.

The funds raised will go toward critical work needed for the new space, including electrical upgrades, fire-safety systems, ventilation, metalwork, and joinery. While significant progress has already been made, additional support is required to meet the final building standards and ensure the space is ready for its grand reopening.

The Black Gate has always been more than just a venue - it’s a community hub where people come together. Since its closure, supporters have expressed how much The Black Gate meant to them, and the team is dedicated to bringing that same energy and sense of belonging back to Galway’s cultural scene. With the help of its community, The Black Gate is set to once again become a key fixture in Galway’s social and artistic landscape.

For those unable to contribute financially, sharing the campaign across social media and other platforms is a powerful way to help. Every share and mention brings the project closer to completion.

The Black Gate team extends its gratitude to everyone for their continued support and looks forward to welcoming the community back to Galway’s cultural hub soon
