Returnable Cup Trial Kicks off with €2 Coffee on Green Friday

Nine cafés and coffeeshops taking part in Galway City Council's returnable cup trial are offering you a fantastic Green Friday gift - discounted €2 coffee in their 2GoCups all-day-long on Friday December 2nd!

Customers can reduce coffee cup waste, save money, and support a local business over their morning coffee!

Get your €2 coffee in Anton’s Café on Fr Griffin Road; C’est la Vie in Terryland Retail Park; The Creamery overlooking Salthill Prom; Greens & Co in Galway's Westend; Mocha Beans' three locations in Salthill, Cross Street, and Newcastle; Roscoes on Eglington Street or Rouge on Dominick Street.

2GoCup €2

Speaking about the initiative, Tiarnan McCusker, Environmental Awareness Officer with Galway City Council explained; "We have just had Black Friday, which is a welcome boost to the local retailers but inadvertently leads to an increase in packaging waste. Green Friday is a novel way for us to do something good for the environment. A €2 coffee in a 2GoCup will save you money and reduce the 22,000 coffee cups disposed of each hour in Ireland. Simply ‘borrow’ a fresh reusable cup for €1 from any of the participating cafes, and you can return it at any time to get your money back."

Feedback about the cups and the scheme is welcome to environment@galwaycity.ie and you can read more about the scheme at www.galwaycity.ie/useyourmug

The Use Your Mug! Campaign is supported by the Local Authority Prevention Network (LAPN) fund from the EPA and the Waste Prevention Fund.
