Morning: Breakfast & Coffee to Start the Day Right

Kick off your day out with a cup of the best coffee in Oranmore. For a health-focused start, head to Sláinte, a dog-friendly café known for its vibrant acai bowls and fresh bagels. Our pick? Their spicy beef bagel is divine! If you're planning to hit the streets early, Espresso 44 is the go-to for a quick, quality takeaway brew. Prefer to sit and soak in the village vibe? Try Brazco Coffee Academy, a local favourite with several locations, serving consistently good coffee and light bites.

Once you're caffeinated, it’s time for a hearty Oranmore breakfast. Cornerstone is a standout, especially if you try their Turkish eggs, it’s a spicy, and creamy delight that we love. Another great option is Ground & Co, offering a warm, casual space with plenty of tasty breakfast options for all appetites. It’s perfect for families or anyone looking for a slower paced start to their day.

Late Morning/Afternoon: Shop Local and Explore Oranmore

With breakfast done, take a stroll around the village’s charming centre. Oranmore’s small-town vibe meets stylish shopping with a great mix of independent boutiques. At Wolf & West Menswear, you’ll find sleek, modern menswear with an Irish twist. To elevate your shoe collection, Sheneil Shoes, a premium footwear and accessories boutique, has curated an exceptional collection of high-end international brands, catering to both special occasions and effortless daily elegance. And fashion lovers shouldn’t miss Ivory Lane, a boutique full of chic clothing and one-of-a-kind accessories.

After a bit of shopping, take a walk down to the water’s edge for a glimpse of Galway Bay, or pay a quick visit to Oranmore Castle, a striking 15th-century tower house that offers a touch of local history and a lovely view of the bay. The village of Oranmore itself has deep roots as its name comes from Fuarán Mór, meaning “Great Spring,” referring to a freshwater well. Over time, the ‘f’ in its name softened into the Oranmore we know today. You can still visit the original well, now preserved in a charming riverside park on the northeast side of the village. The site features sculptures inspired by local wildlife, a pollinator-friendly meadow, and informative panels that share both the folklore and natural history of the area. Just five minutes away, Renville Park offers another beautiful outdoor escape. It’s a family- and dog-friendly haven with scenic walking trails, a children’s playground near the entrance, and plenty of spots to relax. The park is also home to the 16th-century Rinville Castle and is located close to Oranmore’s Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point - perfect for snapping a few photos to remember your visit.

Every Thursday from 1-5pm, Oranmore hosts its weekly Farmers Market just off the village’s main street. An integral part of the community, the market features a wide range of stalls and vendors and is a great place for families and friends to gather, snack, shop, and relax. For those looking to hit the links, Oranmore’s Galway Bay Golf is a gorgeous 18-hole championship course that offers a fun and exciting experience for golfers of all levels. Whether you're lining up a putt for par or sending one soaring down the fairway, you’ll enjoy stunning views across Galway Bay as you go.

Afternoon: Refuel with some Lunch

As lunchtime rolls around, there are plenty of great spots to relax and refuel. Some of the cafés mentioned earlier double as casual lunch spots, offering soups, sandwiches, and light dishes. For lunch with a view, The 2 Iron Bar & Restaurant at the Galway Bay Golf offers a unique dining experience in East Galway. Overlooking the stunning golf course on the edge of Galway Bay, guests can enjoy a fantastic meal alongside a full bar menu, all while taking in some incredible scenery.

Evening: Where to dine in Oranmore

When dinner time comes round, Oranmore offers a variety of dining experiences depending on your mood. For a romantic evening or date night, Armorica delivers an intimate atmosphere and beautifully prepared French inspired dishes using local ingredients. Families and groups looking for a laid-back Italian experience will enjoy Basilico, known for its warm hospitality and delicious pastas and pizzas. The Chicken Arrabiata is one of its new additions and we absolutely adore it. Do yourself a favour and try it for yourself! Meanwhile, Fawn is a fantastic option if you're lucky enough to be around for one of their beloved Sunday lunches, however it impresses on any day of the week with its creative, seasonal cuisine.

As the evening sets in, Oranmore's lively pub scene invites you to continue the fun over a pint.  For something that blends traditional Irish pub charm with a modern twist, The Thatch Bar & Beer Garden is a must-visit, especially on a sunny day. It features a unique mix of snug interiors and a cool beer garden, perfect for both chilly and warm nights. In the colder months, The Olde Brewery is the ultimate cosy retreat, thanks to its welcoming fireplaces and old-world charm. If you're out with a group or want a lively atmosphere with hearty pub food, the Porterhouse is the place to be. It’s also a fantastic place to watch live sports so take note! Of course, Glynn’s Bar is another brilliant option. Their spacious beer garden and Urban Fire’s pizzas make it a popular hangout for locals and visitors alike.

Final Tips for Visiting Oranmore

If you’re visiting from Galway City Centre, take public transport and travel with Bus Eireann on route 404 or with its Expressway 51 bus. Both these buses depart from Eyre Square. If you’re driving, the route to Oranmore is well signposted and outside of rush hour, you’ll get to your destination in no time. From the city it takes approximately 15 minutes to get here.

For your day out, be sure to wear comfortable shoes, (if you don’t own any... get thee to Sheneil Shoes pronto) because Oranmore is a village best explored on foot. If you want to get dinner in a particular restaurant, consider booking in advance, especially on weekends.
