Remapping Places at The Mick Lally Theatre

Remapping Places puts mapping at the front and centre of discussion. The free public event is part of the 2023 Architecture at the Edge Festival in Galway and brings together an exciting set of speakers from across Ireland in an open dialogue about the relationship between mapping and new technologies.

The University of Galway’s UrbanLab is hosting the exciting discussion on the questions to do with new technologies helping us make sense of our surroundings and the importance of mapmaking in our contemporary world as part of the 2023 Architecture at the Edge Festival.

At the free event, participants are invited to dialogue with three leading scholars. Dr. Marcos Dias is Assistant Professor at the School of Communications, Dublin City University and will discuss re-mapping practices used by Brazilian delivery drivers in Dublin. Dr. Oliver Dawkins is a Creative Technologist on the Data Stories Project at Maynooth University and will speak about how sensing and gaming technologies can be used to analyse the built environment. Eugene McKeown is an acoustician and PhD student at the University of Galway and will present his ongoing work on the soundscapes of the River Corrib.

Such topics are of importance for Galway, particularly as the city is set to undergo significant change in the coming years. Find the full festival programme and ticket information for each event on the Architecture at the Edge website here.
