Illustrated Talk: Old Irish Customs of Lughnasa at Galway City Museum

The ancient festival of Lughnasa was of great importance to our farming ancestors as it marked the start of the harvest season. This illustrated talk will discuss its significance as well as some of the old rituals and superstitions associated with the festival.

Dr Marion McGarry is a lecturer at Atlantic Technological University, Galway and is the author of Irish Customs and Rituals: How our ancestors celebrated life and the seasons (Orpen Press. Book cover image below). Her research interests are Irish art, design, heritage and literature, and she is a frequent contributor to RTE Brainstorm.
