Deep Sea Dweller are beyond delighted to invite you to come and celebrate 3 years of electro music in the west of Ireland. What a year they’ve had, bringing acts such as Dopplereffekt, Plant 43, and L.F.T to these shores. And the subaquatic saga continues. They are whipping up a storm to celebrate their third birthday with none other than Sunil Sharpe, one of the finest DJs not only in Ireland, but in the world.

Sunil has been slaying dancefloors everywhere for as long as we can remember. Deep Sea Dweller previously did an electro night showcasing Irish electro talent in conjunction with Earwiggle, bringing Americhord, and That Boy Tim to Galway for what was a killer night of top class electronic music. Now, we bring the label boss to finish the job. Hard hats essential for this one. And, an OG Deep Sea Dweller will join them for a special extended live set. Jimmy Penguin, Galway’s most talented, will bring his electro scratch live ruckus to open the celebration. This is not one to miss. Electric Galway’s The Space won’t know what hit it.

Deep Sea Dweller (known as DSD) is a music night devoted to the electro sound emanating from Detroit in the 90s, and the name itself pays homage to the seminal Detroit electro phenomenon, Drexciya, who are famed for their prolific 10 year period where they released some of the best electronic music ever made, based on a concept where technologically advanced aquatic warriors descended from slaves that had been thrown to the sea, thrived underwater. The night started and continued in Aras na Gael and strived to bring high quality electro from local producers and djs to an audience of both experienced dancers, and those that had never previously heard this sound. Subsequently, DSD found a new sea cave in the form of Electric Galway, hosting acts such as Client_03, L.F.T., Kerrie and Plant 43 to name a few. DSD incorporates aquatic ambience with Ireland’s most talented up and coming djs, with those that are currently making waves, and artists that were the vanguard of the Irish electronic scene, djing, producing and running labels in the 90s and early 00s. DSD has a strong aesthetic and commitment to bring, and keep bringing the highest quality electro to dance floors in Galway and beyond.

Sunil Sharpe is one of techno’s true people. Known primarily for his fast-moving, skilful style and dynamic selections on the decks, Sunil has carved out a unique place in the scene, representing electronic music in a range of different ways – as a DJ, producer, label owner, party organiser, radio host, writer, educator and nightlife advocate. A regular fixture on international lineups and at venues across the world – Bassiani, Berghain, De School, fabric, Fuse Club, Tresor, to name a limited few – Sunil’s reputation as a “turntable wizard” is long established from his early days as a DJ in Dublin (when local competition was fierce and word of mouth meant everything). A producer of raw, individualistic techno, he has recorded on labels such as BPitch Control, Sheworks, Rave Or Die, Black Sun Records, Mord and many more. Sunil also makes up one half of Tinfoil alongside fellow Irish producer DeFeKT. Additionally, he runs the wonderfully erratic Earwiggle label that’s built up a dedicated following since its creation, releasing a range of standout releases across the techno, electro and beyond spectrum.

Jimmy Penguin is one of the co-founders of Community Skratch, the worldwide turntablist collective, and is a tireless ambassador for turntablism in Ireland and around the world. A constant fixture of the Irish underground, Jimmy has released over 40 albums since 2007 and provided production for many more.

He is perhaps best known for his live turntablism shows around the globe, from Galway to Brighton; Berlin to San Francisco; performing both solo and as a core member of the Skratch Lords international DJ ensemble.
