5K Fun Run on the new Moycullen N59 Bypass

A fun run is being organised by Scoil Bhaile Nua Parents’ Association on the new Moycullen bypass on Sunday 12th November at 11am.

It is promised to be a fun day out for all the family where running enthusiasts, walkers and joggers alike can stretch their legs on this brand new road. Start and finish lines for the race will be located at the Drimcong side of the Bypass and registration is open for the event online via the Scoil Bhaile Nua Facebook page www.facebook.com/scoilbhailenua/ or on our online platform where you can register or donate to school community activities at Rás5kScoilBhaileNua

All online entrants will receive a goodie bag, sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge, which includes a reusable water bottle and a poncho. There is also a possibility to register in person in Scoil Bhaile Nua (H91 F6T7) from 1- 3pm on Saturday 11th November. Registration cost is €10 per adult and €5 per child. The Fun Run will start at 11am sharp so participants should be there one hour before to pick up their race numbers. Parking will be available on the day on the Drimcong (Oughterard) side of the Bypass.

Speaking ahead of the Fun Run, Chair of the Organising Committee, Cóilí Gavin Snr, said:“We are delighted to be hosting this one off fun run on the new Maigh Cuilinn Bypass on the N59. Work has been ongoing for quite a while now and we thought it would be fantastic to have a community get together, to welcome those from far and wide to join us before the road is officially opened to traffic, it will be a historic day for the Maigh Cuilinn Community. The event is being made possible due to the co-operation of the road contractors Wills Brothers, so on behalf of the Committee and the School I would particularly like to acknowledge and thank them for working with us on this and for their huge support with this event.”

Scoil Bhaile Nua is four teacher Gaeltacht School in Maigh Cuilinn, Co. Galway, the only remaining scoil lán Ghaeilge on the N59 between Galway and Clifden. With pupils spanning from Maigh Cuilinn to Oughterard, the school is becoming more accessible for all since the introduction of two new bus services in recent years, one from the Maigh Cuilinn area and another from Oughterard and Rosscahill.

Among past pupils of the school are club and Galway county footballers Seán Kelly (Galway Captain), his brothers Eoghan and Paul as well as Dessie Conneely and James McLoughlin, ladies footballer Áine McDonagh, World champion dancers Sylvia and Anna Carroll, and soccer player Vincent Faherty.

School Principal, Áine Ní Fhógartaigh, added: “This is a very exciting time for us and the School hugely welcomes the work of our Fundraising and Parents’ Committee in helping us provide extra activities for the school children during the schoolyear.”
