Film: Sins of Ireland with Director’s Q&A

In a society utterly transformed over the past 40 years, a new film offers a nuanced exploration of the Catholic Church in Ireland through the lens of the sacrament of confession as a way of understanding our past, as well as where we are now and where we are going.  Through the prism of the confession box,  ‘Sins of Ireland’ is a portrait of an overlooked aspect of Ireland’s past and how it impacted many parts of the world. The documentary by filmmaker Alex Fegan, is a nuanced and uncynical examination of confession, as fifteen priests themselves acknowledge how a rite meant to offer absolution and guidance had for many years become a tool of control and shame, with devastating consequences. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Alex Fegan.

Shakalak play their first ever Galway show this Easter Sunday, with support from Galway based soul band The Leon Stax Equation, and Galway DJ Kelsey. Shakalak are a 5-piece Dublin-based psychedelic electronic/hiphop band who have built a dedicated cult following over the last number of years, coupling the lyrical dexterity of John Cummins with the musical talents of singer and bass player Fin Divilly, guitarist Johnny Jude, DJ and producer Small Bear and Saxophonist Padraig Dooney.
