Clifden is a coastal town in west county Galway, located in the region of Connemara. As the largest town in Connemara, it has been dubbed ‘the Capital of Connemara.’ Its name in Irish ‘An Clochán’ means ‘stepping stones,’ aptly named as visiting it is often an important step for all those who wish to explore Connemara and the Wild Atlantic Way. Linked to Galway city by the N59, Clifden is only an approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from the city centre.

Ireland’s intercity coach bus, Citylink, provides regular bus services between Galway city and Clifden also. If you are travelling from abroad, you can fly directly into Galway at Ireland West Airport and from here it is only an approximate 1 hour and 40 minute drive to Clifden town.
