The Clockmaker's Daughter Poster

The Clockmaker’s Daughter is a powerful show, with music and lyrics by Michael Webborn & Daniel Finn. Set in the late 19th century, it is an original fairytale located in a small Irish, fictional town called Spindlewood. Spindlewood was home to Abraham Reed - a talented Clockmaker. Distraught after the untimely death of his young daughter, Abraham sets about capturing her image in clockwork; building a young girl so unquestionably real that even he is unable to fathom her making. On winding her, Abraham realises he has created something more than a machine. Constance, as he names her, can move, talk and think.
Terrified of being discovered, Abraham gives Constance one rule; to remain hidden from the outside world at all times, but the young creation, full of child-like curiosity and frustrated with her limited existence, quickly forms other plans. Constance finds friendship, love and eventually jealousy as she encounters the people of Spindlewood. All tales must end. Ours does so in Present Day, where a statue of a young girl stands, fixed, in the middle of Spindlewood’s town square. As some locals ponder the question – What became of The Clockmaker’s Daughter?

Emily Uí Cheallaigh returns to Marian Choral Society, taking to the stage in the lead role of ‘Constance’, as we welcome Niall Caulfield who takes on the role of ‘Will Riley’. No stranger to the MCS stage, Alana Mullns will play the role of the virtuous and level-headed, ‘Amelia Kelly’, with Brian Flanagan playing the role of ‘Abraham Reed’. No strangers to the MCS stage, Suzanne Garvey, Norman Quinn & Stephen Leo return as the characters of ‘Ma’ Riley’, ‘Mayor Glynn’ and ‘Henry Glynn’. The show boasts numerous featured roles such as Seamstresses, Personal Aides & residents of Spindlewood, played by a mixture of existing & new members to MCS (Mary Newell, Aileen Kirrane, Hannah Rhattigan, Kate MacDonnell, Hannah Wright, Katie Feeney, Niamh McSweeney, Jennifer Burns, Ruadhán Gormally, Mervyn Fahy, Jonathan Newman, Paul Singleton, Enda Mulchrone and Ethan McNea.). No show is complete without an ensemble. We are so lucky to have an ensemble of 33 extremely talented members, who are a vital part of the show and lends support to the front line.
