Seachtain na Gaeilge launches next week in Áras na nGael

On the 1st of March at 6pm, Galway City Irish language groups will launch Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia in Áras na nGael with a very exciting programme of events....

The launch event will include guest speakers and musicians, and the launch of a special edition of Áras na nGael’s magazine which features all the upcoming events for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia!

Irish Language groups throughout Galway City will come together in Áras na nGael, the heart of the culture, to launch Ireland’s and the world's largest Irish language festival. These groups do a huge amount of work individually every year, but this year, they decided to come together to strengthen the bond between them, and to show the city community that a network of groups are working hand-in-hand to promote the Irish language throughout the city.

It is a vision of the Galway City Language Plan to ensure “support for all these groups in speaking more Irish so as to enhance the social use of Irish in the city”. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia gives the groups an opportunity to work together towards this vision.

Seán Seoighe, Manager of Áras na nGael said; "We are very excited for Áras na nGael to be at the heart of the festival, welcoming the public and celebrating our culture and language together. We are delighted to provide a wide program of events to cater to everyone."

Barry Ó Siochrú, Vice-President for Irish with University of Galway Student Union said; "We are very happy to be a part of this amazing event. As students in the city, we always want to be linked with the Irish language and we love being a part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia. It is great to see Irish language groups in the city coming together, because it gives us an opportunity to work alongside them."

SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE LE SEOLADH I GCROÍ-LÁR CHATHAIR NA GAILLIMHE

Ar an 1 Márta ag 6in, beidh Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia á seoladh ag grúpaí Gaeilge Chathair na Gaillimhe. Beidh aoichainteoirí agus ceoltóirí ann ar an oíche, agus seolfar eagrán speisialta d’Irisleabhar Áras na nGael le clár imeachtaí Sheachtain na Gaeilge le Energia.

Beidh grúpaí Gaeilge Chathair na Gaillimhe ag teacht le chéile in Áras na nGael, croí an chultúir, leis an bhféile Ghaeilge is mó in Éirinn agus ar domhan a sheoladh. Bíonn obair mhór ar siúl ag na grúpaí bliain i ndiaidh bliana, ach i mbliana theastaigh uathu teacht le chéile agus an nasc eatarthu a neartú, go mbeadh a fhios ag pobal na cathrach go bhfuil líonra grúpaí ag obair as lámha a chéile chun an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn sa chathair.

Tá sé mar fhís ag Plean Teanga Chathair na Gaillimhe “go dtacófar leis na grúpaí [Gaeilge] go léir níos mó Gaeilge a labhairt ionas go gcuirfear le húsáid shóisialta na Gaeilge sa chathair.” Tugann Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia deis do na grúpaí comhoibriú i dtreo na físe sin.

Dúirt Séan Seoighe, Bainisteoir Áras na nGael “Tá muid ar bís go bhfuil Áras na nGael i lár an aonaigh chun fáilte a chur roimh phobal na cathrach, agus chun ár gcultúr agus ár dteanga a chéiliúradh le chéile. Tá ríméad orainn clár leathan imeachtaí a chur ar fáil do chuile chineál duine.”

Dúirt Barry Ó Siochrú, Leas-Uachtarán don Ghaeilge le Comhaltas na Mac Léinn, Ollscoil na Gaillimhe “Táimid an-shásta a bheith páirteach san ócáid iontach seo. Mar mhic léinn sa chathair, táimid i gcónaí ag iarraidh a bheith bainteach le cúrsaí Gaeilge agus is breá linn a bheith páirteach i Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia. Tá sé an-dheas na grúpaí Gaeilge sa chathair a fheiscint ag teacht le chéile mar tugann sé sin deis dúinn a bheith gníomhach leo,”.
