New Exhibition at The Kenny Gallery celebrates Joe O’Shaughnessy’s Druid

A launch event for an exhibition of photographs by Joe O’Shaughnessy, celebrating 50 years of Druid Theatre Company, will take place at The Kenny Gallery, Galway on Saturday, July 12th at 2.30pm, and all are welcome to attend.

Part of Galway International Arts Festival 2025, Joe O’Shaugnessy’s Druid is an exhibition of 50 photographs relating to Druid, that will run at Kennys throughout the festival, and until August 14th. Admission is free and the photographs are for sale.

Featuring images of actors, staff, productions and various events from over the years, this remarkable collection of photographs celebrates 50 years of the Druid Theatre Company who have remained rooted in Galway since 1975. Joe O’Shaugnessy’s stunning photographs offer a rare insight into the performances, people, the moments, and the creative energy that have defined the company’s legacy.

Born in Galway, Joe O’Shaugnessy’s interest in photography started when he was at school in the early 1970s. His work is now widely recognised for its storytelling power, with numerous national and international awards to his name. He has worked closely with Druid since its founding, and his photographs capture the incredible evolution of Druid over the last five decades.

The exhibition will be opened by Sabina Higgins - actress, political activist and wife of President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, on Saturday, July 12th at 2.30pm at The Kenny Gallery. It is free to attend and all are welcome!
