IRELAND’S FIRST SILENT FILM FESTIVAL TAKES PLACE IN GALWAY

Wednesday the 24th marks the launch of Galway's first ever Silent Film Festival. A feast for cinephiles, the festival will feature events such as film screenings, workshops, live music and more. Come along and see ‘The Passion of Joan of Arc’ in St Nicholas Collegiate Church or spend a night at 'SALOMÉ' at Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop. See for yourself how silent cinema isn't as quiet as you think!
 

GALWAY’S LARGEST ANNUAL FUNDRASING EVENT: MEMORIAL WALK

Last Sunday, the 14th of September Galway locals gathered at Claddagh Hall to walk along the Salthill Prom as a way to commemorate loved ones who have passed away. By donating and wearing t-shirts inscribed with their departed ones name. This year they raised a record-breaking €114,591!

WINNERS OF GALWAY CITY COUNCILS MAYOR’S AWARDS

Congratulations to the winners for Galway’s City Council Mayor’s awards announced this summer. With over 90 individuals and groups nominated across varied categories only 9 winners took home a trophy alongside an individually designed certificate from the Mayor in recognition of their dedication towards helping neighbourhoods, local groups and communities in a way that left a mark!

GALWAY'S FILM FLEADH WINNER ‘CHRISTY’ STREAMS NATIONWIDE

Directed by Brendan Canty, ‘Christy’ won Best Irish Film at the 37th Galway Film Fleadh in 2025. This award-winning film was a feature debut based on Canty’s short film of the same name. Supported by BBC Film and Screen Ireland the film was released on September 5th. You might watch this film for its coming of age drama but end up staying for the heartbeat of humour and depiction of communities. It's honest. It's sweet. It's a moving crowd pleaser.

GALWAY CULTURE NIGHT’S FREE EVENTS

They are doing something for Culture Night this Friday too, as part of Westend Hidden Gems. With over 70 free events ranging from museums, art galleries, poetry, music, dance, workshops and lectures running from 4pm to midnight. This is a fantastic opportunity to participate and celebrate Ireland's rich culture and heritage as there is something in the Galway air that allows creative people to do what they do best, which is to create! On the night there will be plenty of opportunities to get out there,learn and have fun!
