Galway animation company Moetion Films’ exciting new film The Magic Reindeer: Saving Santa’s Sleigh is opening in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on November 22. Read on to find out more about this magical family adventure which is a must-see this Christmas...
Distributed by Kaleidoscope in the UK and Eclipse in Ireland, this is the latest feature film in the Niko franchise about a flying reindeer. With music by world renowned composer and Galway native Eímear Noone, and script co-written by Galway-based Marteinn Thorisson, the film promises a cinematic treat for the whole family.
"We’re very proud at Moetion Films to be bringing the third in this series to an international audience, following the success of the first two films, which sold to over 120 countries." said Producer Moe Honan of Moetion Films, "As an animation company based in the west of Ireland, it’s a privilege to have our work distributed on such a global level, giving us the opportunity to showcase the excellence of Irish animation and talent worldwide."
This follows the worldwide success of Niko & the Way to the Stars (2008) and Niko – Little Brother, Big Trouble (2012). Released last month in cinemas across Europe, the film is already making its mark at the European box office, with over 100,000 cinema admissions in Germany alone in the first week. It was also recently picked up by Viva Kids in North America and is set for a US release this Christmas.
In his new adventure, flying reindeer Niko sets out to fulfil his life’s dream to become a member of Santa’s Flying Forces. Just as he is about to make his sleigh-flying debut, his place on the team is challenged by super talented Stella. His dream shattered, Niko embarks on a thrilling adventure where he ultimately has to decide between trust and loyalty.
Directed by Kari Juusonen with co-director Jørgen Lerdam, this latest feature is a major European co-production, like the previous films in the franchise. Made with the support of Screen Ireland, RTÉ, section 481 tax credit, the film is the result of years of collaboration between European production companies Moetion Films Ireland, Animaker Finland, Ulysses Germany and A. Film Denmark.
Laura Prieto, VP acquisitions at US distributor Viva Kids, added: "We are so happy to continue our commitment to independent animation studios. ‘The Magic Reindeer: Saving Santa’s Sleigh’ will bring joy and adventure to the entire family and we are thrilled to offer all audiences a new film to incorporate into their holiday traditions."
