Filming has begun for first short film from the Céim Eile Scheme: Babaí Brain starts production

TG4 are delighted to announce that filming has commenced this week on Babaí Brain, the first film to emerge from their new Irish-language talent initiative, Céim Eile. This exciting production is taking place in the scenic village of An Spidéal, Connemara, and marks a significant milestone in the Irish-language film industry.

Babaí Brain is a vibrant, modern film aimed at 18-35 year olds. Described as a ‘chick flick’, the story is set to captivate young audiences with its engaging characters and contemporary themes. Written by and starring Brídín Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh, Babaí Brain promises to bring fresh voices and new perspectives to the Irish-language screen.

The film is being produced by Fíbín Media, with Ciarán Charles Ó Conghaile serving as producer. Notably, the director for the project is Nikolaj Feifer, best known as the creator and director of the Netflix hit Baby Fever. His involvement brings an exciting international element to the production, blending local talent with global expertise.

Céim Eile is a groundbreaking initiative launched in 2022 by TG4, Fís Éireann, and the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, following the success of their collaborative efforts with the Cine4 and TG4/Fís Éireann Television Drama Development schemes. The aim of Céim Eile is to discover, develop and nurture the next generation of Irish-speaking writers and filmmakers, providing a platform for emerging talent to shine.
