We were recently invited to try the Luxury Tour & Tasting at Ahascragh Distillery, and it was a fantastic experience that paired the excitement of a distillery tour with delicious food, fascinating history and the chance to try some limited edition whiskey! What more could you want from a day out in the West of Ireland?

First up, it's the Ahascragh Distillery Tour which shows you where and how their premium whiskey and gin is made.

We've been on many a distillery tour and this one is probably the most interesting we've ever done! It’s so cool to see all of the impressive technology that makes Ahascragh Distillery so energy efficient and cutting-edge in its field. It's truly an ultra-modern wonder that conserves a centuries old piece of Galway history. Eoghan is a brilliant tour guide, so friendly and extremely knowledgeable, who is happy to answer any questions you might have along the way.

Then it’s time for the Whiskey Tasting, and this is where the fun really begins!

As part of the Luxury Tour & Tasting at Ahascragh Distillery, you get to sample some limited-edition whiskey practically straight from the cask. We were some of the first people in the world to taste these beautiful spirits and even the guides were excited to sample! They were so recently bottled that they don't even have a retail label yet, and the names and dates were written onto the glass! It was so interesting to smell and taste the different notes that are all influenced by the distillation and ageing process. If you know somebody who is big into Irish whiskey, this is an amazing opportunity to get an insight into the industry.

Then it’s on to our favourite part - the food!

Walk down the road to their neighbouring restaurant, The Clan Colla, and feast on a mind-blowing, five-course tasting menu that makes use of their premium spirits. We were blown away by the flavours and skills on show here, and we loved how we were able to pick up hints of the tastes and flavours that we had just learned about on the Whiskey Tasting.
