I Fall Down: A Restoration Comedy at the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance

In ‘I Fall Down’, Gina Moxley, a former art student, begins by referring to what was her introductory bible to art history ‘The Story of Art’ in which not a single female artist was mentioned. Enraged by that and inspired by Florence Syndrome, a malady where tourists are so overwhelmed by seeing classical masterpieces, they fall into a psychotic state, Moxley confronts classical female statuary head on. The omission of their genitalia propels her on a wild mission to set the record straight. A ‘restoration comedy’ so to speak.

This immersive, punk and fearlessly feminist show begins with a lecture, segues into an operatic promenade, travels to Florence courtesy of contemporary dance, video and sound installations and finally arrives at a cheeky hands-on clay modelling workshop where the audience gets a chance to release their inner artist.

Heralled as an ‘outrageous comedy’ by The Irish Times the show will run for 2 performances only in Galway on 10-11 September at 8pm with additional dates in Limerick and Cork.

Directed by John McIlduff and Performed by Gina Moxley, Katherine O’Malley, Niamh St John, Anne Rowe and Blaithin Mac Gabhann, this is a promenade performance and will require walking to different locations around the O’Donoghue Centre. Tickets available now!

Presented by Gina Moxley, Once Off Productions and The Everyman in partnership with the Drama and Theatre Studies Department, University of Galway.
