Silent Women: Pioneers of Cinema

This International Women’s Day, Cinephile Paradiso invites you to step into the world of early cinema and celebrate the incredible talent of pioneering female filmmakers who are often overlooked. While the film industry still struggles with gender inequality today, it is essential to revisit the forgotten history of early and silent cinema, where female producers, directors, and writers were working in film from the very start.

This programme showcases the transformative films crafted by visionary women between 1919 and 1958 including Lotte Reiniger, Germaine Dulac, Maya Deren, and Agnes Varda.
