The incredible Jess Gillam will make her debut with the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Galway, Balbriggan and Limerick on 6,7 and 8 February respectively. Known for her bold and dynamic approach, she brings the saxophone to life in a concert that spans centuries, from Bach to Boulanger and Bowie. Bach to Bowie showcases the saxophone’s extraordinary versatility, demonstrating its ability to traverse a range of styles and eras with remarkable virtuosity.

Jess Gillam made history at 17 by becoming the first saxophonist to reach the final of the BBC Young Musician competition, and by 23, she was signed to Decca Records, topping the UK charts and debuting at the BBC Proms. Since then, Gillam has established herself as one of the leading saxophonists in the world, with appearances on major international stages, alongside her own BBC Radio 3 show, This Classical Life.

Irish Chamber Orchestra will present Mendelssohn’s youthful String Symphony, a stunning work by the 12-year-old composer, alongside Elaine Agnew’s evocative Twilight.

Gillam joins the orchestra to perform C.P.E. Bach’s dazzling A Minor Concerto, and the captivating Cantique by Boulanger. The concert will also feature David Heath’s hugely entertaining The Celtic. Enjoy Bowie’s Life on Mars, reimagined for saxophone, as well as the lively and infectious Rant by John Harle, written especially for her.
