Illustrated Talk: A Short History of Galway, 1124 to 1691 at Westside Resource Centre

Galway was founded 900 years ago this year, when – in 1124 AD – Turlough O’Conor, king of Connacht and high-king of Ireland, commanded the construction of a stronghold at the mouth of the Galway River (Corrib) on the southern edge of his Connacht kingdom. Brendan McGowan, Education Officer at Galway City Museum, presents an illustrated talk on the early origins and development of Galway.

As part of its outreach programme, Galway City Museum has curated a series of educational events, which will take place at Westside Resource Centre, on Seamus Quirke Road, throughout the darker months between October 2024 and February 2025. The series has been specially developed in response to the interests of the local community and covers a wide range of topics.

These events are free of charge, and all are welcome, but please book in advance by contacting Westside Resource Centre at (091) 528325.
