This October the nation’s biggest comedy festival will take over Galway’s pubs and theatres for seven joyous nights, transforming the city and county into Ireland’s Comedy Capital – in the process delivering an unforgettable celebration of humour, wit, and all things funny.

A terrific friend of Galway Comedy Festival, and one of the most regular guests across the event’s near 20 year history, October in Galway just wouldn’t be the same without Phill Jupitus.

Phill has largely stepped back from stand-up, channelling his talents into the visual arts instead and completing his degree in fine art at Dundee University.

Galway though, is always a place he will make time to visit and do comedy. “Galway is a place I feel at home,” he said. “There’s a sense of ‘Last stop before New York’. It feels like the edge of the world. It gives this feeling that Galway people live on the edge.”

Barry Murphy
Barry Murphy is the true Godfather of Irish alternative comedy and a permanently welcome presence at Galway Comedy Festival.

Barry has been making Ireland laugh for more than 30 years, whether through his solo stand-up; his Gunther character who views the Irish through a severely arched eyebrow; or as a member of the brilliant sports satire trio, Après Match.
