Charlie McGettigan and Jargon at The Mick Lally Theatre

Join Jargon for a captivating concert experience! Originally formed by Charlie McGettigan in 1973 and reformed in the 1980s, this multi-instrumental acoustic band has won the prestigious Letterkenny Folk Festival. Charlie McGettigan, renowned for winning Eurovision with Brendan Grace’s “Rock’n’Roll Kids,” brings his exceptional talent back to the stage. Jargon, now reformed, delights audiences with their rich three and four-part harmonies and a repertoire that spans various acoustic styles. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness a group with a storied history and a bright musical future perform live.

Jargon, the highly talented multi-instrumentalist acoustic quartet, has returned, revisiting their interpretations and original songs in Ragtime, Blues, Folk and Bluegrass styles. Formed by Charlie McGettigan in 1973, the band continued until the mid 1980s and followed Clannad and Pumpkinhead in winning the prestigious Letterkenny Folk Festival and subsequently released three singles.

The group took a break in 1983 to pursue other musical interests. They were not idle during this long hiatus. Charlie toured and recorded with Maura O’Connell and Eleanor Shanley. He and Paul Harrington went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest with Brendan Graham’s ‘Rock and Roll Kids’ and is himself a noted songwriter with songs like ‘Feet of a Dancer’ , ‘A Bed For The Night’ and ‘The Singer’.

Gerry Grennan toured Europe with Seamie O’Dowd and with Brendan Emmett for several years. He also worked with Christy Moore, Delores Keane, Eleanor Shanley before settling back in Sligo playing in an array of ensembles and inspiring generations of budding guitarists through his gentle but demanding teaching style. Liam Gilmartin joined Gerry in the very successful and much lamented Hennigan’s Blooze Band who entertained audiences throughout Ireland. He also toured with Stockton’s Wing and Ray Lynam, among others. He fronts his own very popular band, The Rock on tours.

After 40 years, Jargon reformed in 2023 to play, enjoy and share some of their music with new member Brian Mulligan who also plays in The Old Market Street Swing Band’s Friday evening residency in Thomas Connolly’s, Sligo.
