Fifty years ago, in 1973, Commander Bill King completed an epic three-year world circumnavigation aboard the Galway Blazer II. To mark this significant event in Galway’s maritime history, Galway City Museum has unveiled a new display of objects and memorabilia linked to King’s voyage.

Join Galway City Museum at 12.30pm on Thursday 30 November where members of the extended King family will also be present to celebrate this unique occasion.

There will be a special showing of “King of the Waves”, a film written and directed by Luke Leslie along with reflections from Leonie King, Tarka King and Johnny Shorten of the Galway Bay Sailing Club of which Commander King was a lifelong honorary member.

Commander King’s grandson, Cian Finn will premier a very special song “Survive” that he has composed especially for this occasion.
