Karl Spain is joined by special guests Al Porter, Sinéad Culbert & Tony Kelly for a special Christmas Comedy KARLnival at Róisín Dubh.

Six years ago, at 24 years old, Al was Ireland’s brightest new star, selling out theatres around Ireland and the UK. From just 19 his career had been a runaway train and he became the youngest headliner in Vicar Street’s history at only 21. His award winning stand up received rave reviews from critics, he had his own TV and radio shows and big plans in motion for the USA.
Then, it all fell apart. As Al wrote in an article in 2022, he “had to listen and grow up and make changes” having been “hugely immature…inconsiderate…a mess, oblivious, obnoxious…an idiot” and having let a lot of people down. Al’s sincere stance since has received an overwhelmingly positive response.
Now, hot off the back of a sell-out nationwide tour, with reports of standing ovations every night, the word is out that Al has come back better than ever, only just hitting his prime. Some of the old gloss is gone but that reveals the real Al beneath.

And Sinéad Culbert (Dirtbirds)
Sinéad Culbert is a stand-up comedian, comedy writer and actress. She is one part of the highly successful comedy duo and internet sensation “DirtBirds”. As a stand up comedian Sinead was a semi-finalist in “So You Think You’re Funny”(Channel 4) and “Funny Women Awards” . Sinead has performed stand up on Liffey Laughs (RTE) and in various comedy festivals including Vodafone Comedy Festival, Paddy Power Comedy Festival & Galway Comedy Festival.

Sinéad has written and performed three sell out tours with the DirtBirds including “DirtBirds Live” (2017-2018), “The Self Help Tour” (2018- 2019) and most recently “No Filters” (2022-2023) which culminated in a five night sell out run in the 3Olympia Dublin. Sinéad has also co-written a comedy book called “Dirtbirds Self Help Guide” (Hachette 2019).

Tony Kelly is a comedian originally from Waterford who has spent the best part of the last 15 years performing across New York City, Canada, Europe and Ireland.
This year he wrote, directed and starred in the Irish Comedy movie “The Hurler: A Campion’s Tale” which was released in cinemas nationwide in October. Tony is also the voice of television promos for Virgin Media One and the host of the podcasts “Me Head is Wrecked with Tony Kelly” and the forthcoming “Do You Remember? With Karl Spain & Tony Kelly”.

There is no better MC in Ireland than Karl Spain. Karl has worked with some of the world’s greatest comedians, including a recent tour with Kevin Bridges. He has also written for lots of comedians over the last decade or so, so you have been laughing at his jokes even when you didn’t realise it!
