More information here
Presented by the concert chamber choir of St. Nicholas’ Schola Cantorum, Collegium, and director Mark Duley, Music for Good Friday offers a moment of reflection and calm in the midst of the busy Easter season. Heinrich Schütz’ Matthäus-Passion is one of the composer's three passions written towards the end of his life. These passions, and in particular the Matthäus-Passion, represent the crowning achievement of the greatest German composer of the seventeenth century, and paved the way for the later settings of J.S. Bach and others. The Matthäus-Passion is written for choir and ten soloists, including the major roles of Evangelist and Jesus. The whole work is unaccompanied, its spare texture nevertheless containing passages of rich harmonies and dramatic depictions of the Gospel narrative. This is a passion setting which is the perfect distilled reflection of Good Friday’s stark atmosphere and scripture’s compelling record.

Through his honest and witty reflections, Mike answers the question ‘where did it all go right?’ – a question he and bassist Andy Rourke, with whom he had a deep and very special relationship, used to often ask each other. Rather than simply retelling the well-documented iconic moments of the history of The Smiths, in The Drums, Mike conveys ‘the feeling’ of his time in the band. His story will resonate with the millions of Smiths fans who will rejoice in joining Mike in his love and admiration for the band that changed lives and provided such rich inspiration to the musicians that followed them.
