Monroe’s Award winning bar and live music venue

Are you searching for one of the city’s best pubs to enjoy live music, delicious food, and a historic Galway atmosphere? Monroe’s is the perfect destination. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the first time, Monroe’s promises an unforgettable experience.

Perched on the edge of Galway’s historic Claddagh Basin, Monroe’s Tavern has been a cornerstone of the city’s lively Westend since 1964. What started as a dream for John and Margaret Monroe—who brought a touch of New York back home—quickly became a beloved local institution. They introduced game-changing ideas like table service, a ‘Ladies Lounge,’ and a ‘Singing Lounge,’ making Monroe’s Tavern the first bar in Galway to do so.

Today, Monroe’s Tavern remains a family-run gem, effortlessly blending its rich history with a modern, welcoming vibe. Step inside, and you’ll find live music filling the air seven nights a week—whether it’s a rousing traditional Irish session or an international act lighting up the stage. The warm glow of open fires and the hum of good conversation create an atmosphere that feels like home, whether you’re a Galway native or just passing through.

In 2009, Monroe’s took things up a notch with Monroe’s Live, answering Galway’s growing demand for top-class gigs. Over the years, it has welcomed legendary acts like Texas, Kodaline, and The Darkness, making it a go-to destination for music lovers near and far. An ideal venue for private parties and gatherings, its event space McBrides & Co, offers a unique, nostalgic atmosphere while treating guests to a flavour-filled experience with a carefully crafted cocktail and drink menu.

But Monroe’s isn’t just about great tunes—it’s also about great food. Monroe’s Kitchen serves up fresh, delicious dishes all day, and if you’re in the mood for something extra special, the famous Monroe’s Pizza is some of the best in town. Grab a slice, pull up a seat, and soak in the atmosphere.

Monroe’s Tavern isn’t just a bar—it’s a place where stories unfold, friendships form, and some of the best of Galway’s culture comes to life. Whether you’re sipping a perfectly poured pint by the fire, dancing to live music, or enjoying a bite with friends, Monroe’s invites you to be part of its story—one that’s been over 60 years in the making!
