Monroe’s Tavern Award winning live music venue
A night in Galway’s Westend wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Monroe’s. The striking white corner building is a landmark for tourists and locals alike. Downstairs, the Tavern has a rustic feel with open fires, cosy snugs and wooden floors. Their welcoming bar is the perfect place to grab a pint and enjoy some of the incredible live music played there seven nights a week.
Monday night it’s all about Traditional Irish and folk music. Tuesday nights the pub hosts Traditional Irish Set dancing, welcoming locals and tourists, old friends and new, to gather together and dance the night away without obligation or pressure. Wednesdays are notorious for being the biggest Latino night in the city, bringing people of all nationalities and cultures to the floor for a night of Salsa dancing. Thursday night welcomes The Gamblers, a band renowned for their upbeat Traditional Irish music with a modern flair. Fridays and Saturdays the upstairs Live Venue hosts a range of musicians, bands and DJs every weekend and is open until 2.30am. Sunday night sees Traditional Irish music from 6 – 8pm, followed by music from a local artist until late.
Apart from its fame as a music venue, Monroe’s also serves award-winning food daily, playing host to some of the top chefs in Galway. Paired with a creamy pint, a delicious cocktail or one of their famous Irish whiskies, if you haven’t dined there yet, it should be on your list. In short, a trip to Galway wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Monroe’s where you’re sure to get a warm Fáilte every single time.
