Check In, Tune In and Tuck In at Mary Mullens

You know that feeling when you walk into a place and instantly relax? That’s exactly what it’s like entering into Mary Mullens. You’re welcomed in right away, with smiles and a bit of genuine chat, before you’ve even sat down, you already feel looked after. It’s that kind of place where the staff go slightly above and beyond without making a big deal of it, and it really sets the tone. Discover more about days out at Mary Mullens here..

From early morning, there’s already a nice buzz to it. A steady hum of people easing into the day with coffee going out, plates landing on tables, conversations in the background. It’s very easy to come in thinking you’ll just grab something quick, and then realise you’ve been there far longer than planned. Between the atmosphere and the food, a quick lunch has a habit of turning into a full afternoon without much effort.

There’s a lovely mix of people too. You’ll notice plenty of locals who clearly know the place well, alongside people visiting Galway for the first time or returning again. That blend gives it a really nice balance of familiarity but always with something new happening around you.

That newness extends itself to the menu where their food and cocktail monthly specials keep things interesting. You might come in one week for something like chicken gyros and a margarita, and then not long after find that there’s a completely different line-up on offer. It gives you a reason to come back, even if you weren’t originally planning to.

The location is another reason it all works so well. It’s close to everything, easy to drop into, and works whether you’re starting your day or finishing it. Especially with everything happening in Galway over the summer; the races, the arts and film festivals, people visiting the city for the first time or umpteenth, Mary Mullens ends up being one of those places that people naturally drift towards.

Sundays have their own standout charm, with a mix of live music throughout the day and Irish trad sessions in the evening. On the menu, their Sunday roasts are popular and definitely worth trying. Looking ahead, instead of a typically quiet start, they’ll soon be launching their ‘Full Irish Session,’ allowing you to enjoy your full Irish breakfast with a side of live trad music playing in the background.

If you didn’t know, they have accommodation as well, Mary’s Rooms and Tribeca House Apartment (ideal for groups), so Mary Mullens doesn’t have to just be somewhere you stop-off at, it can actually be the base for your entire visit to Galway!

Incredible food, a cheerful atmosphere, and just an easy place to spend a day. Visit Mary Mullens on a whim and a few days later you’ll find yourself recommending it to someone, or planning to head back to try something else off the menu.

Mary Mullens is open daily from 9am for breakfast, with a late bar and live music throughout the week, and food served until 9pm. For more see marymullens.ie.
