Brilliant New Video Encourages you to Give Gaeilge a Go!

Gaillimh le Gaeilge relaunched the campaign #GRMAGaillimh this week with a video highlighting the city’s unique and special character attributed to Galway’s bilingual status. Watch it here...

The aim of the video is to encourage those with little Irish to Give Gaeilge a Go by incorporating “Dia duit, Slán and Go raibh maith agat” into their day-to-day dealings.

The newly released video, created by Gaillimh le Gaeilge and produced by GK Media, invites us to experience the charisma and charm that bilingualism has created in the city as you see, hear and feel the language when walking through the streets of Galway. Like the narrator tells us in the video; "It’s the ‘Dia dhuit/Slán/GRMA’ on the streets of Galway that make Galway… Gaillimh." The video focuses on a young girl who we follow as she makes her way to work, popping in and out of shops and greeting those whom she meets along the way i nGaeilge.

In 2016, Uachtarán na hÉireann, Micheál D. Ó hUigínn officially declared Galway a Bilingual City at a special ceremony in Galway City Council. In the same year, the campaign #GRMAGaillimh was first created by Gaillimh le Gaeilge with support from the Galway Chamber, GCBA and The Latin Quarter, to celebrate this new bilingual status and encourage members of the business community to use “Dia duit, Slán and Go raibh maith agat” when greeting customers.
