Bibdu is a hand-painted Irish Mythology RPG with open-world exploration and card-based combat. You play as a goddess cursed with mortality, and condemned to roam Ancient Ireland with your hound, Cú. How far will you go to become immortal once more? Your choices will affect the course of the game.

The Kickstarter Campaign went live on July 14th and hit its original target within an hour! Now, they've set up additional goals so they can make the game even bigger and better, and you can support them and get involved right here.

Bibdu Cover Art

Bibdu features over 300+ landscapes handpainted around Ireland, depicting sites from Ancient Ireland, such as Newgrange, Rathcrogan and the Hill of Tara, with stories from Irish mythology, including The Táin and The Battle of Magh Tuireadh. Each location was travelled to by the development team to paint and capture audio. There are countless games inspired by other mythologies, particularly Norse and Greek, yet Irish mythology remains largely unexplored in the gaming world. Bibdu aims to change that by bringing Irish stories to life, and celebrating Irish language, music, landscapes, and native wildlife.

The game is being developed by Rat and Monkey studio, a two person Irish indie game studio based between Galway and Dublin; "Bibdu is designed to shine a light on the value of our landscapes and nature. We have been travelling around the country to visit each site in person, recording soundscapes, handpainting the scenes and listening to stories from locals. The game is a passion project we have been working on for the past 2 years."

They are aiming to have Bibdu fully playable as Gaeilge, and in a "Cúpla focal" version with animal names, place names and greetings as Gaeilge and the rest in English for people who want to start engaging with Gaeilge but aren't confident enough to play the fully translated version.
