Announcing the Cast for The World Premiere of Finding Sophie By Christian O’Reilly Directed by Andrew Flynn!

Decadent Theatre Company and Town Hall Theatre today announce the cast for the world premiere of Finding Sophie, a new play by award-winning writer Christian O’Reilly. Directed by Andrew Flynn, this highly anticipated new play is the sequel to the award-winning Sanctuary. Read all about it right here.....

The four-strong cast features Kieran Coppinger and Charlene Kelly, both members of the Blue Teapot Theatre Company who starred in the stage and screen versions of Sanctuary; they will reprise their roles as Larry and Sophie. They are joined by award-winning actors Denis Conway (Hangmen, Sive, The Lonesome West, From a Low and Quiet Sea) and Anna Healy (Audrey or Sorrow, Druid O’Casey: The Dublin Plays, The Last Return).

Christian O’Reilly (Unspeakable Conversations, No Magic Pill, Sanctuary) and Andrew Flynn (The Ferryman, Hangmen, From A low and Quiet Sea) reunite once again to present the world premiere of this Decadent Theatre Company and Town Hall Theatre co-production, which will premiere at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway from 5-13 September.

Writer Christian O’Reilly said: “This play began with a moment of curiosity. I found myself wanting to know what might have become of Larry and Sophie after the events of Sanctuary 13 years ago. As I wrote it, I was driven both by an urge to answer this question and by the irresistibly thrilling prospect of working again with two of my favourite actors in the world – Kieran Coppinger and Charlene Kelly – who embody Larry and Sophie so authentically and so beautifully. To complete our cast with Anna Healy and Dennis Conway - two great actors in Irish theatre - is a dream come true. I can’t wait to start rehearsals with all four under the brilliant guidance of Andrew Flynn.’"

Director Andrew Flynn said: “Directing new work is as exciting as it gets, there is no road map to guide, so the collaborative journey is thrilling. Christian is a great writer, who charts wonderful characters that audiences care about. It’s such an honour to be working with Kieran Coppinger and Charlene Kelly from Blue Teapot, and with award-winning actors Denis Conway and Anna Healy. Finding Sophie is funny, tragic and tender and guaranteed to move an audience.”

Finding Sophie is the poignant sequel to the award-winning Sanctuary, written by O’Reilly in 2012 and produced by Blue Teapot Theatre Company. It captivated audiences with its depiction of a sexual relationship between Larry and Sophie - two people with intellectual disabilities (ID), played by actors with ID. Now, O'Reilly returns with a compelling sequel starring the original Sanctuary actors – Kieran Coppinger and Charlene Kelly. Larry and Sophie haven’t seen each other in 13 years. Their reunion ignites a shared dream of a life together, but can their love truly flourish in a world seemingly determined to keep them apart?

Finding Sophie receives its world premiere at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway on 10 September with previews on 5 & 6 September. Finding Sophie is funded by the Arts Council.
