The first time we went to a WOMP Event, we didn’t really know what to expect. It’s just a quiz, right? Wrong. WOMP Events take the generic pub quiz and throws that concept out the window. This is way more fun, way more chaotic, and honestly one of the best nights out you could possibly have. Check out their full summer programme below...
Run by quiz masters Niall Horisk and Ronan Clancy, the energy behind WOMP is exactly what you’d expect: spontaneous, creative, and seriously good fun.
Their longest-running and most-popular night is the bi-weekly COMMON KNOWLEDGE Quiz Night at The Ol’55. It’s the kind of quiz where no two rounds are ever the same. One minute you’re answering a question pulled straight from the day’s headlines, the next, you’re trying to name a song from a hum or decipher a cleverly distorted photo. “Mossy, the legend who runs The Ol’ 55, has been a real champion of WOMP and Common Knowledge,” Niall shares, and adds that the crowd is a huge part of what makes each quiz so special.
You’ll have teams debating answers like their lives depend on it one minute, then laughing at how wrong they were. It’s that perfect mix of competitiveness and easygoing banter, and you’ve got plenty of chances to experience it! For the first time ever, the COMMON KNOWLEDGE run will continue throughout the summer; on June 2nd, 16th, and 30th; July 14th and 28th; and August 11th and 25th.
The demand for these COMMON KNOWLEDGE quizzes has grown so much that venues like The Harbour Bar in Bray are fast becoming a second home for the duo. Plans are already underway there to make COMMON KNOWLEDGE nights a monthly fixture, with its debut taking place on June 10th, coinciding with them hosting a variety of other WOMP events.
If you’re interested in themed quizzes, well that’s where WOMP Events really made their name, and they’ve got plenty lined up for the months ahead. Their annual, THE ONE WITH THE FRIENDS QUIZ, returns to Massimo on July 8th. Now entering its fifth year, it’s back by popular demand, and we, for one, can’t wait.
Meanwhile, the ever-popular US OFFICE QUIZ comes back to Massimo on August 12th. It got its start during lockdown and continues to fill rooms with fans eager to relive the chaos of Dunder Mifflin.
Two events at Róisín Dubh also await with the telly-themed GREAT BIG SMALL SCREEN QUIZ taking place there on August 13th, followed by the GREAT BIG BIG SCREEN QUIZ celebrating all things film on September 12th.
What we love most is that WOMP has kept things simple. No apps, no phones, just good old-fashioned pen and paper. It sounds small, but it really makes a difference as now you’re actually engaging with those around you instead of being hunched over a screen.
As summer rolls on, the calendar is packed: Galway dates, Bray takeovers, and a string of themed nights that blur the line between quiz and live entertainment. Consider this your sign to go to one, even (especially!) if you think quizzes aren’t your thing. It’s not about getting everything right, it’s about having fun and if we’re being honest that’s exactly what a great quiz night should be.
