Kennys Bookshop and Art Gallery is located in Liosbán Retail Park, approximately 5 minutes drive or 25 minutes walk from Eyre Square.

One of Ireland’s largest bookshops, they have tens of thousands of new and secondhand books available in store, with everything from the latest bestsellers and great bargain books, to secondhand sci-fi novels and rare and signed first editions. The staff are also all big readers and are always on hand to help with recommendations! Kennys also offer free delivery in Ireland on all book orders placed via their website; www.kennys.ie (which is also interestingly the world’s oldest online bookshop!). In 2021, Kennys Bookshop won the first Bookshop of the Year award at the Irish Book Awards.

The art gallery specialises in the sale of original and contemporary Irish art, with a huge variety of paintings and sculpture available to suit every taste and budget, both in the Liosbán premises and available to view online. In addition to this, Kennys Bookshop regularly hold events in their shop in Liosbán including conversation events with authors, book launches and art exhibition openings – they have been welcoming authors and artists through their doors since they first opened.

The shop was set up in 1940 by Des and Maureen Kenny on Galway’s High Street, and it has grown and expanded over the years to include an art gallery, a rare books and archives division, a book bindery, web business and a libraries service. In 2009, the business relocated to Liosbán. Members of the second and third generation of the Kenny family work in the business today.
