Points of Viewing: An exhibition of Painting, Drawing & Mixed Media Works at Daróg Wine Bar

Clodagh Wade and Hilary Morley live in Galway and both studied Fine Art with an emphasis on painting and drawing. They have exchanged ideas and offered each other encouragement and support on many occasions and particularly in recent months. This exhibition brings together a collection of their new and carefully selected works in watercolour, charcoal, mixed media and collage. Both artists share a deep appreciation for the natural world. Clodagh explores the wonder of the sea and coastline areas of Galway, while Hilary is drawn to the endangered rural landscape of the western city suburbs and beyond.

This exhibition represents on the artists’ individual and collaborative ‘Points of Viewing’. Clodagh uses watercolour and mixed media on clay board. This smooth and absorbent surface allows for experimental techniques in painting, drawing, etching, adding contrast, texture, and fine detail. A finishing layer of cold wax accentuates colours and adds a beguiling finish to each of the works.

“My most recent work focuses on spontaneity and experimentation, allowing intuition and subliminal knowledge to guide the process and create the unexpected. I’m doing so because I seek to produce a simulacrum of what I love about Galway’s seaside”. 

Hilary’s artistic practice thrives on the decline of rural townlands close to Galway. She is endeavouring to capture the beauty of subsistence fields, trees and delicate stone walls before they disappear. This new collection of work combines painting, drawing and collage elements, which are made from old maps, envelopes, books, and photographs.

“My themes relate to ordinary places and those that are in decline,” Hilary says. “I am saddened by the way that the new architecture in my area seems to ignore the natural rhythms and undulation of our unique rural landscape”.

‘Points of Viewing’ can be seen in the intimate setting of Daróg Wine Bar on Dominick Street, Galway city between 8th September and 9th November 2026.
