PEOPLE OF GALWAY; THIS IS SARAH

We’re having the chats with #PeopleofGalway for the craic — messers and chancers, artists and tourists, buskers and shopkeepers, and any other unwitting victims we meet on the street.

#ThisIsGalway “When I was in New Zealand, there were a lot of Irish people, and they all told me I had to come to Galway – now I study here. I’ve lived in English speaking countries for several years, but I’d say the biggest cultural difference between Ireland and Germany is the slang. When I first arrived here and met all the other students, especially the Irish ones, and heard it, I was like “What is this?!”

The first thing they had to explain to me was what a shift was. We were heading on a night out and they started talking about lads trying to shift you in clubs.. and I was confused. It’s small things like that. I don’t really notice it anymore, though, but at the beginning I sat there and had no clue what people were talking about.”
