Paddy Lynch wins Staff Personality of the Year at the 2024 Bar of the Year Awards!

Sonny Molloy’s very own, Paddy Lynch wins ‘Staff Personality of the Year’ at the 2024 Bar Awards! These awards showcase the best of the best in the industry. So we caught up with Paddy to chat about why he loves working in Sonny Molloy’s, his go-to whiskey picks and his favourite spots to go for a pint in galway. Find out more here…..

Paddy Lynch has an infectiously bubbly and charismatic personality so there was no surprise when we heard Paddy was crowned ‘Staff Personality of the Year’! Paddy told me why he was surprised when he heard that he’d won the award.“Sure it’s an award for chatting and having the craic. It was lovely to get it, it’s nice to be recognised”, said Paddy.

Paddy is a huge people person. Paddy told me what exactly was his favourite part about being bar staff: “Definitely the people, the chats, the craic. Especially in Sonny Molloy’s people want to come in and they want to learn. They want a little bit of an insight into what they are drinking. It’s being able to talk to people and have fun with them and hopefully they leave with a better understanding”, he replied.

People travel far and wide to have a pint in Sonny Molloy’s Bar. Paddy himself has worked all over the world but he told us what it is in particular why he loves working in Sonny Molloy’s.

“I suppose in Sonny Molloy’s people from all over the world come to us. Everyday you’re meeting people from all around the world. People are just happy to be here and have fun and you get to be a part of it”, Paddy added

It’s safe to say that Paddy is an expert in the whiskey department! “I’ve always had an interest in Whiskey in particular, it’s what I would drink if I go out. I would much rather have a good whiskey than three of anything else”.

Paddy’s go to Whiskey’s are Micil Whiskey and John’s Lane Whiskey! Paddy tells me why these are his favourite’s! “My favourite whiskey, well there’s a couple! I really like the Micil
Micil Inverin products” he continued by saying, “John’s Lane i really like, I really like the work they put into it. I like the fact that they went into the archives, found an old recipe. It’s a really good example of where Whiskey was, where we’re building from and it tastes good”.

When asked to pick one favourite pub Paddy simply could not pick just one: “I’ve got a couple!”, he giggled. “I actually go to Tigh Nora’s quite a lot and then I really like Hughe’s in Woodquay and Tonery’s in Bohermore. Just proper old school real bars”
