Hector Ó hEochagáin’s new series begins on TG4

Join Hector on his brand new TG4 series as he embarks on an action-packed journey across the Caribbean, visiting everything from a cigar factory in Cuba, to the carnival in Kingston, Jamaica and even stopping off in the Caribbean’s very own Emerald Isle of Montserrat...

Screening Thursdays on TG4 from 24th October at 9.30pm.

Ireland’s most intrepid explorer, Hector Ó hEochagáin, returns for a sun-soaked adventure through the Caribbean, two decades since his last visit. This vibrant series follows Hector as he delves deep into the diverse cultures and rhythms of the Caribbean islands. In Cuba, Hector explores the bustling streets of Havana, where he meets jazz legend Bobby Carcassés and observes the changing face of the birthplace of Fidel Castro. Next, he ventures into the Cuban countryside to witness carbon-making traditions from the past that remain very much alive today, before going on to meet the boxing stars of tomorrow.

The following week Hector heads to Jamaica, where he immerses himself in the island’s lively carnival, meets Olympic sprinting champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and even visits a weed farm where he dreams up the first Irish-language name for a strain of weed. In the Dominican Republic, Hector explores the passionate world of local baseball, experiences the distinctive rhythms of ‘son’ music, and visits the Haiti border, where he sees the flow of people and goods between the two countries first-hand.

Hector’s adventure continues in Puerto Rico, where Hector samples local delicacies, enjoys the island’s spirited basketball and wrestling scenes, and explores its colourful street art and pineapple farms. Rounding off his Caribbean adventures, Hector checks out the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean in Montserrat, and visits the golden sands of Trinidad and Tobago. Don’t miss out on this latest series of travels with Hector, as he uncovers the heart and soul of the Caribbean, with his signature blend of curiosity and Irish charm.
