Exhibition of stunning screenprints opened at Kennys!

Collected Impressions is a new exhibition of over 75 screenprints by Bernadette Madden which opened at The Kenny Gallery last Friday, the 17th of August - a survey of a medium the artist has explored extensively for twenty five years. Each of these screenprints is an original work of art, conceived and created solely in this medium, and they are all available for sale. Read all about it right here....

While Madden works across various media, particularly in batik, screenprinting has become a central and enduring part of her practice. She approaches screenprinting in a distinctly hand-crafted way – she draws and cuts her stencils manually, methodically paints her ‘resists’ directly, uses simple tools to create clear, layered compositions. Her images are often built from memories, photographs, or quick observational sketches, gradually refined and transferred to screen.

Bernadette Madden was born in Dublin and graduated from NCAD. A highly esteemed figure in Irish art, she was awarded the William J. Macaulay Fellowship in Painting in 1976, a mark of early recognition by the Arts Council, was appointed to the Board of NCAD in 1984, and later, as a member of Ireland’s Cultural Relations Committee in 1998. Initially celebrated for her mastery of batik on linen In recent years, Madden has shifted her primary focus to screenprinting.
