Walking Tours: Walking through Galway Theatre History at Galway City Museum

The ‘Walking through Galway Theatre History, 1783–1923’ tour is curated and led by Dr John Cunningham and Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley of the University of Galway, who will be joined by several expert speakers, this walking tour through the streets of Galway will explore aspects of the history of theatre in Galway from 1783 to 1923.

This event is free of charge and no booking is required. The tour will begin at 4.30pm sharp in the courtyard of Galway City Museum (H91 CX5P). This is an outdoor event, so please dress for the weather.

4.45pm – Quay Lane: Lorraine Grimes, Sarah-Anne Buckley on Punchbag and Patricia Burke Brogan
4.55pm – Kirwan’s Lane: Brendan O’Mahony on Kirwan’s Lane Theatre and Wolfe Tone
5.05pm – Chapel Lane / Druid Lane: Jonathan Hannon on the Druid and Tom Murphy
5.15pm – Middle Street: Mary Cunningham on Racquet Court Theatre and Walter Macken
5.25pm – Middle Street: Jeanine Woods on An Taibhdhearc
5.35pm – Middle Street: (A short reading from) James Hardiman on the Assembly Rooms
5.45pm – Lombard Street: John Cunningham on The New Theatre of the 1830s
5.55pm – Bowling Green: Aodh Ó Coileáin on Na Fánaithe
6.05pm – River bank by Wolfe Tone Bridge: Adrian Patterson on Yeats and Lady Gregory episode.
