Viva la Vida: Mexican Altar

“Viva la Vida: Mexican Altar” is more than an exhibition; it’s a heartfelt tribute to a unique chapter in history that connects Mexico and Ireland. This year’s altar is dedicated to the St. Patrick’s Battalion, a group of Irish soldiers who fought alongside Mexico during the Mexican-American War. This tribute aims to honor their bravery and the enduring friendship between two nations.

As part of the Día de Muertos tradition, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the altar offers a space to reflect on the bonds of solidarity that transcend borders. The display, rich with traditional Mexican elements like marigold flowers, candles, and sugar skulls, serves as a vibrant expression of gratitude to those who united our cultures through their sacrifice.
