Galway Arts Centre is excited to announce its participation in “Thursday Lates,” a six-month pilot programme developed in partnership with Galway City Council to extend their opening hours to provide greater access to arts and culture in Galway City outside of traditional working hours. Starting 3rd of April, the Centre will remain open every Thursday evening from 5pm to 9pm, for a six-month period.

A series of free, family-friendly events will also run on Thursday evenings as part of “Thursday Lates” to supplement their regular exhibition schedule, with a range of workshops, tours and talks aiming to heighten your experience of the exhibition and give more people a chance to engage with the art.

Join us from 6-7pm on Thursday July 24th for a family-friendly tour of the current exhibition in GIAF ‘pass the baton’, led by artist Róisín Doherty, followed by a curatorial tour with complimentary refreshments led by curator Tom McLean from 7pm-8pm.

Róisín Doherty is a visual artist based in Galway, originally from Cruit Island in Northwest Donegal. She recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Creative Practice from ATU Galway. She has widely exhibited both nationally and internationally, being the only Irish Artist selected during COP26 to showcase her work in Transmission Gallery, Glasgow.

Tom McLean is the Assistant Curator of Galway Arts Centre. He is also a visual artist, and cultural event producer based in Galway City since 2012 and is the co-founder of Outset Gallery. As Assistant Curator at GAC, he is committed to fostering inclusive and innovative programming, actively supporting diverse artistic practices, and strengthening community engagement with the arts in Galway City.
