Galway Arts Centre is excited to announce its participation in “Thursday Lates,” a six-month pilot programme developed in partnership with Galway City Council to extend their opening hours to provide greater access to arts and culture in Galway City outside of traditional working hours. Starting 3rd of April, the Centre will remain open every Thursday evening from 5pm to 9pm, for a six-month period.

Join us at 6:30pm on May 1st for a tour in Arabic of the current solo exhibition by Alice Rekab, led by artist Taim Haimet.

This is a unique opportunity for people from Arab speaking countries to experience a guided tour of the current exhibition, led by Taim Haimet. Taim Haimet is a multidisciplinary artist based in Galway. Born in France of Syrian parents, her work delves into the complexities of a Middle Eastern identity marked by a history of colonialism, ongoing conflict, and loss. Drawing from Arab folklore, history, poetry and mysticism, she creates symbolic ‘sacred spaces’ where these narratives can be honoured and resonate within the Western world. With a background in theatre, her work often integrates the staging of space, spoken narrative, and the human voice as a powerful medium. Her narrative-driven installations are expressed through sculpture, video and sound. Taim completed an Honours degree in Contemporary Art in 2023 and has recently completed an MA in Creative Practice at ATU Galway. She was awarded the 126 Gallery artist residency and the RDS Visual Arts Awards 2023. Taim is Galway Arts Centre’s ATU graduate residency awardee 2024-2025, supported by Galway City Council Arts Office.

Clann Miotlantach / Mythlantics by Alice Rekab is organised by Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Co. Cork in collaboration with Galway Arts Centre. It’s curated by Miguel Amado and presented as part of a tour produced by Rayne Booth. The exhibition is realised in part with funding from the Arts Council through a Project Award and the tour is delivered with funding from the Arts Council through the Touring of Work Scheme.
